Yu-Chung Tseng


Yu-Chung Tseng, Composr, Director of Sound and Music Innovative Technology Master Program; Music Director of Chiao Tung Laptop Orchestra-CLOrk; Associate professor of Computer Music Composition at Music Institute at National Chiao Tung University. He completed his Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of North Texas(1998),where he studied composition and computer music with Phil Winsor,Larry Austin and J.C.Nelson. He is member of ICMA and founding member of TCMA in Taiwan. His music, written for both acoustic and electronic media, has been recognized with awards from MUSICA NOVA International Electroacoustic Music Competition 1st Prize in 2010).

Mr. Tseng's works have also received many performances at festivals and conferences. His music can be heard on Selected Electroacoustic Music of Yu-chung Tseng (ISCM-Taiwan), CDCM Vol.28(U.S.A.), WOCMAT2006/2007/2009(TCMA), Discontact iii(Canada), Pescara 2004, Contemporanea 2006(Taukay, It.), Metamorphoses labels 2006/ 2008/2010(Belgium), SEAMUS 25th Anniversary CD(USA), KECD2 (Demark), and Musica Nova 2009/2010 prize-winning CD(Czech).

Recent years he found his interests in NIME-integrating various technologies including sensors, wiimote, iPhone, iPad, laptop, self-designed instruments with Max/MSP, Live, Spat…software as new interface musical expression for both individual and ensemble performing purposes . He founded the first laptop orchestra-CLOrk(Chiao-tung Laptop Orchestra) at National Chiao-tung university in Taiwan.

Apprentice of Master Jian-Lou (Teacher Yu-Mei Kao); National Taiwan University of Arts Department of Music, Chinese Culture University Department of Chinese Music, and Graduate Institute of Art (Music) with specialization in performance, advising professor Cheng-Ping Wang.  Admitted to the Taipei Chinese Orchestra in 2004.  Received many accolades during her studies of the pipa.  Rich performing experiences.  Specializes in adapting different styles of music.
